LYNCHBURG, Va. – No. 6 Lynchburg had a seven-run fourth on its way to a 9-6 victory over No. 3 Shenandoah University Friday morning in the opening game of the NCAA Division III Lynchburg Super Regional.

Playing as the home team, Shenandoah (42-9) saw Lynchburg (42-7) score seven runs on four hits and five walks in the fourth to break open a 2-1 contest.

SU refused to fold its tents and clawed back in it with two runs in the fifth and three more in the seventh, but could not bring the game back to even.

Lynchburg reliever Jack Batchmore, the 2023 ODAC Pitcher of the Year, recorded the final seven outs to earn his 12
th save of the season. Batchmore, who struck out six in the 2 1/3 innings of work, snuffed out a two-on, two-out rally in the seventh and a two-on, one-out situation in the ninth.

Shenandoah outhit its fellow set of ODAC Hornets, 12-8, with eight of the nine players in the SU lineup getting at least one hit, but gave up nine walks on the mound with five of those free passes eventually crossing the plate.
SU also left 12 runners on base.

Zack Potts (11-0) was the winner, allowing six runs (three earned) on 10 hits and three walks in 6 2/3.

Jacob Faivre (7-2) went the first 3 1/3 for SU, giving up eight runs (seven earned) on four hits and six walks against seven strikeouts.
Jackson Sherman finished up, allowing one run on four hits and three walks in 5 2/3.

Ryan Clawson, had two hits each.
Kyle Lisa drove in a pair of runs with Horning, Clawson, and
Tyler Blittersdorf recording one RBI each.

These two teams are back at it Saturday morning at 11 a.m. for game two. Lynchburg will be the home team for that contest. Shenandoah would be the home team for game three if SU forces the 'if necessary' contest.
