BUENA VISTA, Va. – The Shenandoah University women's soccer team defeated Southern Virginia, 3-2, in a back-and-forth contest Saturday night.
After a combined four goals in the first 15 minutes of the game, Kirklyn Wilson broke the tie for the Hornets (2-0) in the 88th minute to get the win over the Knights (0-2).

Ellie Ajello started the scoring at the 6:03 mark of the game. The goal marks the first college goal for the first-year from Bel Air, Md.
It'd take just 23 seconds for the Knights to respond as Tessa Miller found Maci Rackman for the tying goal. Their scoring wouldn't stop there for SVU, as they scored eight minutes later off of Maybel Harris' header that found the corner of the net.
Shenandoah got a header of its own less than a minute later. Emily Dendis crossed a ball to the middle of the box that connected with the head of Karlie Hepner giving SU the equalizer.
Each team would be held scoreless for the next 17 combined shots as each team tried to break the ice.
With the game tied at two and under four minutes to play, Shenandoah was able to draw a foul and force a free kick in their offensive half of the pitch. On the free kick, the ball worked its way into the box and found the foot of Kirklyn Wilson, who put it past the goalkeeper for the difference maker.
Shenandoah outshot Southern Virginia 16-8 and had a 6-1 advantage on corners.
