Men's Basketball Defeats Ferrum With Last Minute Shot

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University men's basketball team defeated Ferrum College, 57-52, thanks to a last-minute shot to get the ODAC home victory on Saturday afternoon.

After holding the Panthers (13-4, 4-4 ODAC) scoreless for the first 10 minutes of the second half, the Hornets (13-3, 4-3) picked up a massive three from Davion Roberts with 0:19 to take the lead.

RECAP

The Hornets scored right away as Joseph Baldwin scored second chance points in the paint to put SU up first. Shenandoah stayed ahead as Joshua Stephen gained back-to-back buckets, including the first three of the game.

After Ferrum took its second lead of the game, Evan Makle took his turn from deep to get Shenandoah back ahead at 12-10. The Hornets got more scoring help from Jaylen Williams and Nic Pullum in the middle of the first as SU stayed ahead.

For the rest of the half, Ferrum fought back and pulled ahead by eight, the largest lead of the game for them. Baldwin scored the final five points of the first for Shenandoah as Ferrum headed into the half up by six.

Shenandoah capitalized on the break and opened up the second on a 14-0 run, holding Ferrum scoreless for 10 minutes. The run helped SU take an eight-point lead of its own.

The Ferrum offense finally stopped the SU run, while its defense held Shenandoah without a field goal all the way up till the eventual game-winner. The Hornets still got on the board as Pullum, Williams, and Baldwin all knocked down shots from the charity stripe.

With the game tied at 52 and time ticking away, Williams found Roberts open in the corner as Roberts swished the three, getting SU up 55-52. Williams added the punch, nailing a pair of free throws with 0:09 remaining.

Williams finished with a double-double with 12 points and 11 boards. The guard also added six assists to his afternoon.

Six different Hornets had at least six points in the game, with Stephen tying Williams for the team-high.
