Bell Helps Women's Lacrosse Push Past No. 15 Messiah

WINCHESTER, Va. - Behind a go-ahead fourth quarter goal, the Shenandoah University women's lacrosse team knocked off No. 15 Messiah University 9-8 in a non-conference home game on Saturday afternoon.

Tied 8-8 heading into the final frame, Amy Bell tallied her third goal of the afternoon at the 2:15 mark of the quarter to give the Hornets (2-0) the game-winner. On the Falcons' (0-3) final possession of the game, SU forced a turnover to seal the upset victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Gabriella Raspanti put the Hornets up 1-0 just over five minutes into the game on a feed from Madison Re. The Falcons evened things right up just 20 seconds later but Re was there to give the Hornets another lead with back-to-back goals. Just prior to the first quarter ending, Ainsley Buckner got on the board to give SU a 4-1 lead after one.

In the second quarter Messiah flipped the script and outscored SU 5-, putting SU behind 5-6 heading into the half. Re scored the lone goal for the Hornets in the second.

Messiah continued to push ahead as they took a 7-5 lead just minutes into the second half. Minutes later Amy Bell scored to cut SU's deficit in half. SU only had to wait 46 seconds to tie things up as Buckner found Emily Lerch for the tying goal. Shenandoah stayed hot, scoring once again on another Bell tally to take an 8-7 lead with 6:20 remaining in the third. Messiah responded under two minutes later, evening the game at 8 heading into the fourth.

The fourth was an even battle with the difference maker being the Bell go-ahead goal, capping off her hat trick. The Hornets' defense stood tall forcing a Falcons turnover in the final seconds to secure the win.
