Track & Field Wins Two Events and Breaks Records in New York City

NEW YORK CITY - The Shenandoah University track and field program took a trip up to the Big Apple for the 2024 NYU DIII Invitational on Friday. The Hornets won two events and broke two school records in the process.

Kiara Felston once again broke her own conference record in the women's weight throw, winning the event. This week the graduate student had a throw of 17.79 meters, exactly 0.20 meters further than her previous record.

The second event that SU won was the men's 60m dash. William Crowder ran a 6.89 in the finals after qualifying in the prelims with a 7.00 finish.

On the women's side, Makenna Thrush broke the school record in the mile with a mark of 5:09.58, eight seconds faster than the previous time. Thrush also moved into the second all-time spot in the 3000m, finishing eighth at 10:32.85.

Mackenzie Plowman (800m, 2:25.83), Amy Oleksy (800m, 2:26.68), and Sarah Sidoro (200m, 27.24) all moved into the school's top 10 in their respective events.

For the men, Wyatt Newcome (200m, 23.02), Devin Kohout (mile, 4:31.57), Caleb Beiswenger (3000m, 9:17.77), and Zavien Cottonham (60m hurdles, 10.36) also moved into the schools top 10.

Overall in the invitational, SU had 12 top-10 finishes.
