ARLINGTON, Va. – The Shenandoah men's lacrosse team hit the road Wednesday evening for a non conference match up with the Marymount Saints. The Hornets (5-2) came away with a 10-9 victory after a late goal from
Stephen Graham. The victory for the Hornets today was their seventh straight win over Marymount dating back to March 2017. Leading the way for the Hornets was
Stephen Graham with five goals and an assist, scoring his five goals on only six shots.
Austin Sydnor chipped in with two goals and two ground balls.
Matt Daniel and
Logan Clingerman each had a goal and an assist while
Sam Poster was the other goal scorer for Shenandoah.
Austin Galler had six ground balls while going 12-21 from the faceoff circle.
Mark Isabelle started in goal for the Hornets and made 17 saves while collecting four ground balls in the win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Stephen Graham started the scoring for the Hornets 90 seconds into the game after the Saints won the opening faceoff and fired a shot that Isabelle saved.
- Logan Clingerman picked up his lone goal almost a minute later off an assist from Graham during a man-up opportunity.
- Matt Daniel scored the third straight goal for the Hornets in the first after Galler won the faceoff and picked up the ground ball.
- Marymount finally got one back with just under 11 minutes to play after Isabelle made back-to-back saves on two previous shots, but could not come up with a third-straight save.
- Austin Sydnor, the fourth different goal scorer of the period, gave the Hornets a three-goal lead for the second time with under seven to play in the first, off an assist from Matt Daniel.
- Marymount fired four more shots to end the period, but could not find the back of the cage and the Hornets took a 4-1 lead into the second.
- Each team scored a goal in the second with Marymount cutting the lead in half first five minutes into the quarter.
- After a plethora of shots hit the pipe for the Hornets, Austin Sydnor finally took one that hit the twine to push the lead back to three heading into the half.
- Stephen Graham scored back-to-back goals for the Hornets in the third sandwiched around a Saints goal. Marymount then scored their second of the quarter just under a minute after Graham completed the hat trick.
- Marymount held the Hornets scoreless over the last 11 minutes of the third and managed to score four straight goals to tie the game at 7 heading to the fourth.
- Galler won the opening faceoff to start the fourth and the Hornets marched right down the field and Graham found the back of the net to regain the lead 30 seconds into the quarter.
- Marymount fired four straight shots toward Isabelle all that went high and wide, before finally connecting on the fifth attempt to tie the game at 8 with under nine minutes to play.
- With under five minutes to play, Marymount took their first and only lead of the game.
- As the Hornets continued to apply pressure on the Saints defense it was Sam Poster who came up with the equalizer with just over three minutes to go off an assist from Logan Clingerman.
- On the ensuing faceoff, Marymount won the draw but then threw the ball out of bounds trying to make a cross-field pass. With the clock ticking down Stephen Graham netted his fifth goal of the game which proved to be the game winner.
- The Hornets won the final faceoff, but the Saints caused a turnover before the Hornets could run the clock out. However, the Hornet defense was up to the task as Marymount never got a final attempt off and the buzzer sounded.

The Hornets will stay on the road on Saturday when they travel to Ashland for a matchup with Randolph-Macon, however, this contest will not be counted towards the conference record.
