Yellow Jackets Sting Hornets in Lacrosse Tilt

ASHLAND, Va. – The Shenandoah University men's lacrosse team traveled to Ashland today for a matchup with Randolph-Macon.  Even though the Yellow Jackets are a fellow ODAC member, due to an unbalanced schedule today's game was not a conference game.  The Hornets (5-3) fell to the Macon 15-1 on Saturday afternoon.  Stephen Graham picked up the lone goal for the Hornets right before the half, and even though the Hornets managed 30 shots for the contest, they only managed the goal.  Mark Isabelle got the start in goal and made 11 saves in the contest.  Jack Dwyer played the last half of the fourth quarter and came up with two saves in his first extended minutes of the season.  Matt Daniel and Stephen Graham led the way with eight combined shots on goal, with Graham being the only to capitalize.  The Hornets, who have done well in the faceoff circle throughout the season, went 6-20 in the circle today, with Austin Galler leading the way with three wins.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Randolph-Macon jumped out in the front just 30 seconds into the game.
  • Macon scored more in the first to take a 5-0 lead into the second.
  • Macon added five more goals in the second to go up 10-0, but as the half was winding down, Shenandoah caused a turnover off a failed clear attempt.  Jonathan Hammond picked up the ground ball and as the Hornets worked their offense, Stephan Graham found the back of the cage to get the Hornets on the board.
  • Macon added three more in the third to increase their lead to 13-1.
  • The Hornets fired eight shots in the third, but could not capitalize.
  • Macon added two more in the fourth as they pushed the lead to 15-1.
  • Sam Poster, Dylan Taylor, Bryan Berryhill, Josh Boonshaft, and Austin Sydnor all fired shots on cage, but could not crack the Yellow Jackets' defense.

UP NEXT

Shenandoah will officially start their conference slate of games on the road on Wednesday when they travel to Bridgewater.  The Hornets have an administrative forfeit and are already 1-0 in the conference.
