Outdoor Track and Field Starts Season

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The outdoor track and field season kicked off on Thursday afternoon with several Shenandoah student-athletes competing in day one of the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational.

Katya Hoover started the weekend off strong for Shenandoah with a third-place finish in the women's javelin. In the first competition of the season, the junior hit a personal record of 39.24m, which was well over a meter better than the fourth-place participant. The throw was also the best throw for a Division III student-athlete today.

Staying in the field, Zak McIntyre finished 31st in the men's hammer throw with a heave of 39.14m. 

In the women's 10k, the Hornets had two top-5 finishers. Madeline Lotts finished third with a PR of 39:13.75. Sarah Christy also set a new PR in the same event, finishing fifth with a time of 39:44.56. The Shenandoah women's team earned team points on day one.

The men had three runners in the 10k. Caleb Beiswenger finished 26th, Sean Baggett placed 29th, and Tyler Mullen set a PR while placing one spot behind Baggett.
