BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Shenandoah Hornets coming off a ten-day bye, got back to their winning ways by picking up a double overtime victory over Bridgewater on the road Wednesday night. Shenandoah (6-3, 2-0) got the winning goal from
Stephen Graham in double OT to beat the Eagles for the second straight year. Graham led all scorers with four goals.
Logan Clingerman had two goals and two assists, while
Bryan Berryhill also chipped in with two goals.
Matt Daniel,
Sam Poster,
Austin Sydnor, and
Aaron Coombs each added a goal of their own to help contribute to the win.
Mark Isabelle got the start in between the pipes and picked up the win while making 13 saves.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- In a highly anticipated matchup early in conference play, this game did not disappoint as each team traded goals early in the game.
- It took just over a minute for the Eagles to win the opening faceoff and take an early 1-0 lead.
- Even though Bridgewater won the ensuing faceoff, Mark Isabelle stood tall making a save to keep the deficit to only 1. The Hornets took the change of possession, and it only took a matter of seconds for Aaron Coombs to score his first of the season and knot the game at 1. Logan Clingerman dished to Coombs as the two connected to tie the game.
- Just over two minutes later it was the Eagles who regained the lead, even though Clark Harrity fired a shot toward the cage, but was denied the lead for the Hornets.
- With 7:00 minutes to go in the first, it was Logan Clingerman who found the back of the cage to once again tie the game at 2 in the back-and-forth contest.
- Stephen Graham scored his first of the game to give the Hornets their first lead of the game with five minutes to go in the first.
- That lead was short-lived, as the Bridgewater scored a minute later and we were all square at 3 apiece.
- Bridgewater then regained the lead for the fourth time with just under three to go.
- Bryan Berryhill made sure that the first quarter ended tied with an assist from Josh Boonshaft.
- Austin Galler won the final faceoff of the quarter, but Bradley Holt made sure to keep the Eagles off the board causing a turnover late in the first.
- The Hornets exploded for three goals in the second holding the Eagles scoreless as Shenandoah took a 7-4 lead into the break. The Hornets got goals from Matt Daniel, Logan Clingerman (man-up), and Graham's second of the game as Shenandoah built their lead.
- Mark Isabelle made five saves in the quarter.
- The comeback was on for the Eagles as they scored the first two goals of the second half, but Stephen Graham stopped the bleeding as he completed the hat trick. However, the Hornet offense went stagnant as the Eagles rattled off three straight goals to end the quarter and took a 9-8 lead heading into the final quarter.
- In the fourth, the Eagles took a two-goal lead three minutes into the final period.
- Austin Sydnor scored just over a minute later to help the Hornets pull back with one goal, as it was going to be a tight finish coming down the wire.
- Any momentum the Hornets were building, temporarily came to an end, as the lights went out in the stadium causing a 15-20 minute delay.
- With just under 5 minutes to play, Bryan Berryhill tied the game at 10. Sam Poster then went on to put the Hornets ahead 11-10 with 44 seconds left to play, but the Eagles ended up tying the game at 11 with 12 seconds left and the game was heading to overtime.
- In the first overtime, Austin Galler won the opening faceoff, but Bridgewater caused a turnover. The Hornet defense then played stifling defense, forcing a shot clock violation. Neither team picked got a shot on goal in the first overtime, with Stephen Graham firing the only shot that was blocked by a defender.
- In the second overtime, the Eagles won the faceoff and fired a shot that rattled off the post. Sam Poster fired a shot but the Eagle goalie made the save and then Shenandoah called timeout to set up their offense. Logan Clingerman fired a shot high, but the Hornets were the closest to the ball so they kept possession. Then it was Stephen Graham who ended it to secure the win for the Hornets.

The Hornets return home on Saturday for a conference game with Roanoke. That game is scheduled to start at 1 pm.
