Lutz Earns Career Win 150, Buckner Hits Century Mark in Goals and Draw Controls

Hornets Win, 19-10

WINCHESTER, Va. - With a 19-10 win over Rhodes College at home on Saturday, Shenandoah's women's lacrosse coach, Lindsay Lutz, earned her 150th career win at SU. Ainsley Buckner also scored her 100th career goal and crossed the century mark for draw controls as well.

The Hornets (5-1) used 12 first half goals to propel them to the win over the Lynx (2-6) with Buckner's 100th career goal coming with 5:12 remaining in the first quarter, which put SU up 6-3 at that point. SU also had six players record at least two points in the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Ainsley Buckner scored career goal number 99 to open up the scoring just under a minute in. Madison Re won the ensuing draw control which led to Alex Ripkin's first goal of the day, making it 2-0 SU. Rhodes scored three straight goals to take the 3-2 lead but Ripkin tied it up, 3-3, with 8:58 left in the opening quarter.
Gabriella Raspanti potted a goal on a free position, man-up goal, and Sofia Albi assisted on an Elizabeth Szell goal to make it 5-3. Talia Maria won the draw control, which was one of five that she had on the afternoon. Buckner drew a foul which set her up for a free position attempt. She delivered on the shot and found the back of the net for the 100th time in her career.
In the second quarter, Shenandoah took a 12-6 lead into the half thanks to goals from Buckner, Albi, Ripkin, and Emily Ransom.
Albi added another goal to her day to start the second half but the Lynx started to crawl back, cutting SU's lead down with two straight goals. Shenandoah received insurance goals from Re and Szell to push its lead to 15-8.
The fourth quarter saw two new goal scorers in the game for Shenandoah as Grace Thornhill and Emily Lerch both netted their first goals of the high-scoring afternoon. Ripken placed her fifth goal of the afternoon a portion of the way through the final frame, before Lerch scored again to close out the game.
