HOW IT HAPPENED

• Averett picked up the first shot of the morning on the very first possession of the game. The Cougars' shot went wide and the Hornets took full advantage of the missed shot and went on a scoring rampage minutes later. Madison Re struck first in the game and just over a minute later Sofia Albi gained a free position shot. Albi made the most of the opportunity and scored her seventh goal of the season. Moments later Alex Ripkin made it a 3-0 game on another SU free position shot. With 7:12 left in the opening frame, Ainsley Buckner made it a hat trick of free position goals for the Hornets, as they went up 4-0.
• With Shenandoah up by four and under six minutes left in the first, Buckner, Emily Lerch, and Amy Bell quickly made it 7-0 in favor of the road squad, with all three goals coming in a 70-second span. By the end of the quarter, Kate Vendemia had made it 8-0 SU.
• Haley Sullivan had made it a nine-goal game just minutes into the second quarter but Averett gained its only goal of the contest, bringing back within eight. Following a goal from Bell, Alex Ripkin had put SU up by double-digits to start the running clock with just over three minutes left in the first half.
• Shenandoah continued to put pressure on the Cougars in the second half. Elizabeth Szell scored on an Albi assist to make it 12-1. Sullivan and Buckner then made it 14-1 with two quick goals. Bell capitalized on a failed clear from Averett to then make it 15-1 and Albi added another free position goal to end the third.
• In the fourth quarter, SU totaled five more goals with Hannah Schneider, Sarah Karlinchak, and Ciera Overley all getting their first career goals to help the Hornets to victory.
• Six different Hornets recorded at least two goals in the win and the team had a total of 24 draw controls, with Buckner leading the way with eight. Lerch, Ripkin, and Re also had at least three draw controls. First-year Madison Pitt picked up her first career caused turnover and ground ball, while also leading the team with three each.
