Women Win, Men Place Second at North River Invitational

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - For the second of three times this season, the Shenandoah University track and field programs traveled to Bridgewater College, this time for the North River Invitational on Saturday.

The Hornets women's team won the event with 173 points, 69 points in front of the next closest team. The men tied for second place with 95 team points, while the host team took first place.

In the field, the Hornets started earning points with a fourth-place finish for Reginald Patterson III in the men's hammer throw. On the women's side of the hammer throw, Kiara Felston took home first place with a throw of 50.47m, with the next closest competitor just shy of six meters from her mark. Jessica Rendfrey added to Shenandoah's hammer squad with a throw of 44.17m, for third. Patterson, Felston, and Rendfrey all placed for points in their respective shot put and discus finals as well.

Three Hornets earned team points in the women's high jump, with Katya Hoover leading the way with a jump of 1.63m for first. Taylor McIntyre and Caitlyn Sweet rounded out the event for SU with a fifth and sixth place finish, respectively.

Mekhi Mims hit a height of 1.82m in the men's high jump, while Jiyon Watts was 0.10 meters below Mims.

On the track, Madeline Lotts and Emma Madrigal took home first and second place, respectively, in the women's 3000m steeplechase. Lotts crossed the finish line at 12:14.74 and Madrigal came in at 12:46.76. Caleb Beiswenger won the men's event at 10:49.50 with Noah Godfrey wrapping up four spots later.

Emma Nicely, Amy Oleksy, Sarah Christy, and Allie Clarkson combined to earn 19 total team points in the women's 1500m finals. A total of 3.43 seconds separated Nicely, Oleksy, and Christy for second, third, and fourth place.

Ethan Harrower celebrated a first place finish in both the men's 1500m and 5k.

Janelle Anderson won the women's 200m dash with a finishing time of 26.08 seconds. Teammates Sarah Sidoro and Alexis Hubbard were less than a second behind Anderson and came in third and fourth, respectively. The sprinting trio teamed with Loy to come in second place in the 4x100m relay.
