HOW IT HAPPENED:
- With Guilford jumping out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first, the comeback started with Bradley Holt causing the first turnover of the game, which he promptly picked up the ground ball and started down the field. Holt found Clingerman who got the ball to an open Matt Daniel and the Hornets were on the board.
- The Hornets wasted little time in tying the game just over a minute later, as the Hornets forced another turnover, this time it was Aaron Coombs, and after a successful clear, Logan Clingerman found the back of the cage to tie it at 2.
- The Hornets took their first lead of the game after another forced turnover, this time it was Jonathan Hammond who forced a Quaker turnover and it was Austin Sydnor who put the Hornets in front 3-2 as the first quarter ended.
- The Quakers tied it early in the second quarter, but after that, it was all Hornets. Starting with a save from Mark Isabelle, the Hornets cleared the ball before Luke Petrie fired a shot that Guilford saved. Matt Daniel picked up the ground ball and beat the keeper as the Hornets retook the lead, one they would not give up.
- 30 seconds later, Stephen Graham scored a man-up goal, as the Quakers were accessed an unnecessary roughness penalty on Daniel's goal.
- A minute later, the Hornet defense stepped up again as Zander Smith forced another Quaker turnover and Shenandoah made them pay. Bradley Holt picked up the ground ball and found Matt Daniel for the goal.
- The seventh Hornet goal came off an Isabelle save and after the clear, Tyler Held scored his first goal since scoring two goals in the season-opener with Mary Washington, while Austin Sydnor picked up the assist.
- Guildford picked up a goal with just under six to play in the half to make it a 7-4 game.
- Shenandoah quickly got that goal back and added another goal before the half ended. Clark Harrity scored off an assist from Graham making it 8-4, and then after six shots straight shots from the Hornets, Held cashed in on his second of the game as the Hornets took a 9-4 lead into the break.
- Sam Poster made it a 10-4 game early in the third off an assist from Clingerman.
- The Quakers quickly scored back-to-back goals to cut into the lead and make it a 10-6 game, but again every time the Guilford scored, the Hornets were right there to strike back.
- Shenandoah then ended the third on a 4-0 run starting with a goal from Poster after an assist from Graham, then a goal from Boonshaft off an assist from Berryhill, followed by a goal from Clingerman off the Graham assist, and capped off with a goal from Stephen Graham as the lead ballooned to 14-6.
- The Quakers best chance came late in the period, but Isabelle was able to make back-to-back saves to keep Guilford off the board.
- Sam Poster completed the hat trick early in the fourth before Boonshaft made it a 10-goal game.
- Guilford got their final two goals of the game before Tyler Held completed his hat trick in his first game back from injury and Sam Poster added one more goal for good measure to secure the 18-8 win for the Hornets.
