Multiple Hornets Earn All-ODAC Accolades on Day One of Championships

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - As the Shenandoah University outdoor track & field programs competed on day one of the 2024 ODAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Bridgewater College, the women's team is tied for third and the men currently sit fifth at the end of the first day of the championships.

In the women's high jump, Katya Hoover won the event, earning a first team All-ODAC placement, with a school record-breaking jump of 1.68m. Hoover now sits 13th in the nation in the event.

Kiara Felston earned second team All-ODAC honors as she placed second in the women's hammer throw with a heave of 46.65m, with teammate Jessica Rendfrey coming in fifth with a throw of 44.04m. 

Mekhi Mims earned the first points of the day for the men's side during the high jump as he placed sixth with a jump of 1.87m, as he and three other ODAC competitors hit the same height in the event.

A pair of Hornet men earned points in the hammer finals as Dylan Tubbs wrapped up in sixth with a toss of 42.97m and Reginald Patterson earned eighth place with a mark of 42.58m. The men had another eighth place finish, this time in the long jump, as Elijah West earned the men a point with his jump of 6.40m, 0.07m further than the next closest competitor.

Now moving to the track, Madeline Lotts placed second, earning second team All-ODAC, in the women's 3000m steeplechase with a time of 11:36.25. Emma Madrigal wrapped up just shy of 38 seconds after Lotts to place eighth in the first track event of the day.

The men's steeplechase saw Ethan Harrower have the highest finish for SU in the event, as he crossed the finish line at 9:39.99 for a fourth place finish.

Sarah Sidoro is moving on to the finals of the women's 400m dash, which will take place tomorrow, as she came in sixth, finishing the event just milliseconds over a minute.

The men have William Crowder competing in the 100m dash finals tomorrow as he came in second place in the prelims with a time of 10.71. Crowder is set to run at 3:25 p.m. on Saturday. Elias McGhie is set to compete roughly an hour after Crowder on Saturday after he qualified in the 400m hurdles with a time of 57.25.

Rounding out the day for SU, Sarah Christy ran in the women's 10k and earned Shenandoah two points with a mark of 39:43.49. Allie Clarkson came in one spot after Christy, crossing the line at 40:57.51.

Shenandoah returns to Bridgwater tomorrow for the second and final day of the championships.
