Nicely and Felston Break School Records at Widener

CHESTER, Pa. - In the team's final push towards sending individuals to the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, the Shenandoah University track and field program sent seven athletes up to Widener University for the Widener Final Qualifier.

Katya Hoover placed second in the high jump this afternoon with a jump of 1.62m. Hoover currently sits 20th nationally in the high jump after hitting a mark of 1.68m back at the ODAC Championships last month.

Kiara Felston, who sat 35th nationally in the hammer throw entering the day, surpassed her ODAC and school record in the event with a massive toss of 50.93m. She had just broken her own record this past weekend at Mount Olive. Felston now sits 32nd in the nation.

Felston wasn't the only Hornet to set a school record today, as Emma Nicely set a new record in the 800m as she finished with a time of 2:18.72. Nicely held the previous record as well, which was set last month at the ODAC Championships. The record was broken by 0.50 seconds.

Mackenzie Plowman ran in the 800m as well and came across the line at 2:20.54, which moved her into second place in the school record book. Plowman previously held the fifth-best time for the program.

William Crowder took part in the 100m dash this afternoon and took home a second-place finish. The junior ran a 10.77, which was 0.01 seconds behind the top mark of the day for any competitor.

Rounding out the day for SU, Madeline Lotts ran in the 3000m steeplechase and finished in 12th with her time of 11:53.18. Sarah Christy also took on the 5k and ran a 19:30.68.

Shenandoah awaits to hear if any individuals make the NCAA Championships. There are still three days left in the qualifying window.
