Women's Lacrosse Defeated by Roanoke in ODAC Semifinals

SALEM, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's lacrosse run in the ODAC tournament has ended after a 14-3 loss against Roanoke College in the ODAC Semifinals on Saturday.

The Maroons (15-3) controlled most of the game as the Hornets' (14-4) only three goals of the game came in the second quarter.

RECAP

  • Madison Perry stopped the first shot of the game as the Hornets went and fired a shot of their own, which was also saved. Roanoke's next shot rang off the pipe with Talia Maria scooping up the ground ball, which led to an SU shot that went wide.
  • It took nearly six minutes but Ronaoke scored first in the game, exactly three minutes later the host team had made it 2-0 on a free-position goal. The Maroons then won the draw control, took nearly a minute off the game clock, and scored to make it 3-0. Roanoke had made it 4-0 with another goal just 51 seconds later, forcing SU to call a timeout.
  • Amy Bell got a shot on the net for the Hornets but her shot was saved and on the next Roanoke possession they picked up two free-position attempts. On the second attempt, the Maroons connected with the back of the net to make it 5-0. The Maroons then shot the next three shots, with the first one being stopped by Perry, and the third one getting past the goalkeeper to put the home team up 6-0 at the end of one.
  • Roanoke scored the first three goals of the second quarter. Ten minutes into the frame, Shenandoah finally got on the board as Emily Ransom found Gabriella Raspanti for SU's first goal. The Maroons responded with another goal to go back up by nine.
  • Towards the end of the half, Ainsley Buckner picked up her 52nd goal of the season. As time expired Cameryn Bowker connected with Bell to give SU its third goal. RC led 10-3 at the half.
  • Shenandoah was held to eight shots in the second half as Roanoke added four more goals. Perry stopped five Roanoke shots in the final 30 minutes as she finished the game with 10 total saves.
  • Roanoke's scoring came from five different goal scorers as they outshot SU 37-18 in the semifinal contest.
