BUENA VISTA, VA - Shenandoah Women's Tennis kicked off their 2025-26 match play with a 3-4 loss at Southern Virginia Tuesday night. The Hornets (0-1) swept through the doubles point and took #1 and #2 singles, but the Knights (2-0) would handle the #3 through #6 singles matchups.
Doubles
All three Hornets' pairings took their doubles matchups to win the point for SU. #1 Doubles pair
Olivia Guzzo and
Atlee Hilliard won a 6-4 contest over Delich/Nad. Molanphy of SVU. #2 Doubles pair
Samantha Calvert and
Erin Talko also took their match in a 6-4 victory over Weir/Dalgleish of SVU.
Kendra Gillette and
Leigha Montrief rounded out the doubles sweep at #3 with a 6-2 victory over Laird/McMim.
Singles
At #1 Singles,
Olivia Guzzo played her first-ever match at the #1 spot and claimed the victory over SVU's Delich, 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-6).
At #2 Singles, First Year
Atlee Hilliard continued her strong opening to her career at SU with a dominant win over Nad. Molanphy, 6-1, 6-3.
At #3 Singles,
Erin Talko slipped up early in the match, before making a push in the second set that would prove too late, as she would fall 0-6, 4-6.
At #4 Singles, First Year
Samantha Calvert started strong in the opening set, but her opponent found her stride in the second, as Calvert would fall, 4-6, 0-6.
At #5 Singles,
Kendra Gillette battled hard, but it wasn't enough to push within reach of victory, as she fell 2-6, 3-6.
Finally, #6 Singles saw
Leigha Montrief match her teammate at #5, also losing 2-6, 3-6.
