Cross Country Battles at Gettysburg and Rowan Meets

GETTYSBURG, Pa./LOGAN TOWNSHIP, N.J. - The Shenandoah University cross country teams split their squads on Saturday morning and competed at both the Aubrey Shenk Invitational, hosted by Gettysburg College, and the Border Battle, hosted by Rowan University.

The Hornets' men's team wrapped up in 19th place, while the women finished in 21st place in their respective events.

In the men's 8k open, Caleb Beiswenger finished first for SU with a mark of 27:38.7, with first-year Issac Clarke crossing the finish line next for SU at 28:17.5. Shane Lyons wrapped up 11 seconds behind Clarke, for a personal record, with Tyler Mullen (28:44.2) and Bryce Scholz (28:54.0) rounding out the top five finishers for the men, while also setting PRs.

Emilie Gaudron completed the women's 6k first for the Hornets at 24.19.8. Sarah Lane ran a 25.51.1 in the event, followed by Cora Helman at 26:29.7. Julia Sheaffer was the fourth Hornet to finish the 6k, with a time of 27:03.2, as Rylee Miller closed out the top-five for SU at 27:29.0. Lane, Sheaffer, and Miller each finished with personal records.

BORDER BATTLE RECAP

Shenandoah's women's squad ran in the first race of the Border Battle, finishing 24th in the 6k DIII Champ race. The men harriers finished the day for the Hornets in the men's 8k, also placing 24th.

Maddy Chorney, a sophomore, placed inside the top 60 of individuals and first for the Hornets with a 22:52.9. Amy Oleksy scored next for SU at 23:56.0, as Grace Semow came in just under a minute later for SU. Emily Bultema finished at 25:04.6, while Emma Madrigal finished inside the top five for Shenandoah at 26:19.3. Semow and Bultema each set personal records in the event.

For the men, Zack Hamacher set a PR at 26:32.5. Will Ashley also set a PR with a 26:37.2, with Kyle Corpin finishing next for SU at 27:11.6. Braden Shotwell (27:21.1) and Nathan Lee (27:30.5) rounding out the top five for SU, with Lee's time setting a PR for the senior.

UP NEXT

The Hornets compete at the ODAC Championships in two weeks. This year's championships are hosted by Bridgewater College.
