Women's Basketball Sweeps ODAC Player of the Week Awards

FOREST, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's basketball team swept ODAC Player of the Week, with Emily Williams earning Offensive Player of the Week and Addisyn Banks winning the award on the defensive end of the court, as announced by the league on Monday.

Williams, a senior, averaged 20 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 3.5 assists in two games this week for SU. The guard started the week with a 26-point, seven-rebound outing at Dickinson on Tuesday. On Sunday, at home versus (RV) Christopher Newport, Williams scored 14 points and added 14 rebounds for a double-double.

Of her 21 rebounds, eight of them were on the offensive side of the court. Williams ended her week with a 51.4 shooting percentage, including 75 percent from long range. Defensively, the guard had five steals and a block. This is the second time this season Williams has been named Offensive Player of the Week.

Banks, a guard, gathered seven steals and blocked three shots in the two games. Additionally, the guard grabbed eight defensive rebounds this week. Against the Red Devils, Banks had three steals and a block. In the game versus the Captains, the guard had added four more steals and dished out two blocks.

Offensively, this week, Banks scored 33 points and 10 assists with 11 made field goals and eight made shots from the free throw line. This is the first weekly award for Banks in her career.

Shenandoah went 1-1 this past week, defeating the Red Devils 72-60 on Tuesday. The Hornets suffered their first loss of the season on Sunday to CNU, 64-49, after nearly completing a 15-point comeback, with Banks hitting a three to make it a one-possession game in the fourth.

The Hornets begin ODAC play this Wednesday at Virginia Wesleyan University. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
