Yellow Jackets Throw No-Hitter in Game One

ASHLAND, Va. – The Shenandoah University softball team was shut out in a pair of ODAC matchups on Saturday afternoon, falling to No. 23 Randolph-Macon College.

The Yellow Jackets (14–2, 2–0 ODAC) threw a no-hitter in an 8–0 victory in game one, ending the contest with a seven-run fifth inning. In game two, Shenandoah (6–8, 0–2 ODAC) was held to just one hit, with Randolph-Macon securing an 11–0 win in five innings.

GAME ONE

Pitching Decisions:

Win: Gracie Ellis (8–0)
Loss: Becca Sexton (1–2)

RECAP

Randolph-Macon's pitching dominated early, striking out the side in the first and adding another punchout in the second. Sexton kept the game close, holding the Yellow Jackets scoreless through the first two innings while allowing just two hits.

In the third, a two-out walk set up Randolph-Macon's first run, as a double down the left-field line brought home the game's opening score.

The Yellow Jackets carried a perfect game through 4 2/3 innings until Sarah Medellin reached on an error, marking Shenandoah's only baserunner of the contest.

Randolph-Macon put the game away in the fifth, scoring seven runs—all with two outs—off five hits, two walks, and a hit-by-pitch to end the game via the run rule.

GAME TWO

Pitching Decisions:

Win: Courtney Guthrie (4–0)
Loss: Meghan Gaskins (2–1)

RECAP

Randolph-Macon wasted no time getting on the board in game two, launching a leadoff home run in the bottom of the first.

The Hornets struggled to generate offense early, with their only baserunner in the first three innings coming from a walk drawn by Makayla Cox in the second. Meanwhile, Randolph-Macon capitalized on scoring opportunities, adding five runs in the second inning—all with two outs—behind a pair of RBI doubles and a run-scoring single. The home team tacked on another run in the third, extending its lead to 7–0.

Shenandoah's lone hit of the day came in the fourth inning when Cadence Rieg singled to right center.

Randolph-Macon continued to apply pressure in the fourth, taking advantage of a leadoff error and launching a two-run homer to left center as part of a four-run inning. The Yellow Jackets retired the Hornets in order in the fifth to close out the game.
