Eleven Score in Women's Lacrosse Senior Day 23-1 Win Over Averett

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's lacrosse team celebrated senior day with a 23-1 ODAC victory at home over Averett University on Saturday afternoon.

Fourteen Hornets (6-3, 2-0 ODAC) recorded a point in the win over the Cougars (1-2, 0-2) with 11 players scoring a goal. Ainsley Buckner led the way with four goals in the conference win.

RECAP

Ainsley Buckner scored the first two goals of the day for the Hornets, with senior Agata Gullace adding an assist on her second goal. Seniors Kate Vendemia and Amy Bell tallied the next pair of goals for the Hornets, each assisting on each others goals.

Alex Ripkin, Kaitlin Clements, Emily Ransom, and Alyssa Webster scored the next handful of goals for Shenandoah, as the home team led 8-0 nine minutes into the game. Webster, Ripkin, Vendemia, and Ransom each scored their second goals of the frame as Shenandoah led by a dozen at the end of the first.

Haley Sullivan and Sarah Karlinchak opened the scoring in the second quarter before Ripkin completed the hat trick, putting SU up 15-0. With 2:06 remaining in the second, Averett scored its only goal of the game but the Hornets responded with a goal by Addison Harmel to end the half.

The Hornets earned two goals in the third quarter with Buckner earning a hat trick on an assist by Sofia Albi and Clements scoring her second goal.

Ayla Jantz tallied less than two minutes into the final quarter for her first goal of the afternoon. The Hornets continued to apply pressure as Buckner, Harmel, Bell, and Karlinchak rounded out the scoring for SU, capping off the 23-1 victory.

Jordan Higgins and Maddie Gaboury split time in the cage for Shenandoah with Higgins claiming the win, while making two saves.

The Hornets outshot the Cougars 40-5 in the win and controlled the draw, 21-5.

UP NEXT

Shenandoah heads to Bridgewater on Wednesday for a midweek ODAC contest at 7 p.m.
