Hornets Soar Past Eagles for Fourth Straight Win

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's lacrosse team pushed its win streak to four games following a 22-2 ODAC victory on Wednesday night at Bridgewater College.

The Hornets (7-3, 3-0 ODAC) flew past the Eagles (6-4, 2-2) behind an eight-goal second quarter and a strong defensive performance that forced 12 turnovers. SU has now outscored its conference opponents by 62 combined goals this season.

RECAP
The Hornets' defense applied early pressure, forcing a failed clear just a minute into the game. That mistake proved costly for Bridgewater as Ayla Jantz opened the scoring on a free-position goal. Moments later, a caused turnover by Caitlyn Lepkowski led to another Jantz goal, making it 2-0.

Bridgewater's fifth turnover of the first quarter led to a 3-0 lead as Caitlin Clements found the back of the net. Ainsley Buckner added to the pressure, forcing another turnover that set up an Emily Ransom goal. Following two penalties on the Eagles, Kate Vendemia capitalized on the man-up opportunity, giving SU a 5-0 advantage.

In the second quarter, Alex Ripkin struck early before Bridgewater scored its first goal of the game. The Hornets quickly responded, with Buckner and Lepkowski teaming up for a goal, followed by another Buckner tally just 30 seconds later. Buckner remained a force, contributing on three of the next four Hornet goals before Sofia Albi scored in the final seconds of the half, giving Shenandoah a 13-1 halftime lead.

The offensive onslaught continued in the third quarter. Ripkin, Buckner, Hawes, Clements, and Ransom each scored, extending the lead to 18-1.

Ransom opened the fourth quarter with her team-leading 22nd goal of the season, while Alyssa Webster added back-to-back free-position goals for a 21-1 lead. Bridgewater managed one more goal before Cameryn Bowker capped the night with her first goal of the season. Maddie Gaboury recorded a late save to keep the Eagles at two goals.

Buckner led SU with five goals and added two assists for a season-high seven points. Six other players recorded a multi-point night, with Vendemia collecting four and Ransom adding three.

The defensive efforts were led by Lepokowski and Ripkin, who each caused two turnovers, with the latter contributing six draw controls.
