The Hornets earned another hit and drew a walk to load the bases, but a strikeout ended the frame and left the bases full.

After allowing back-to-back walks, Meghan Gaskins got out of the jam by retiring the next three batters, including one strikeout.

In the third inning, Becca Sexton came into pitch for Shenandoah and loaded the bases with one out on a hit, error, and walk. The first-year got out of the inning, allowing zero runs, on a double play as Rieg threw a runner out at home, trying to advance on a fly out.

Sexton sat down the Maroons in order in the fourth as Taylor Smith entered the circle in the fifth. Smith got out of a bases loaded situation by forcing a groundout to third to end the inning. In the seventh inning, with Gaskins back in the circle, the Maroons once again loaded the bases but Shenandoah forced two consecutive outs, securing the 1-0 win.

A fielding error by Shenandoah allowed Roanoke to double its lead in the bottom of the second.

Blumenschine hit a one-out single in the third and advanced to second on an error before coming home on a single by Rieg. The Maroons led 2-1 through three after Danielle McNeill and Paige Eagleton turned a double play to end the bottom of the inning.

Another Shenandoah error once again allowed the Maroons to score a run in the fourth for a 3-1 advantage. In the top of the sixth, with the tying run at the plate, the Hornets were caught stealing and then popped up to first to keep the deficit at two.

A pair of singles in the bottom of the sixth assisted the Maroons in taking a 5-1 lead. The Hornets hit consecutive singles to start the seventh but hit into a game-ending double play.
