Women's Lacrosse Blanks Panthers, 23-0

FERRUM, Va. - The Shenandoah Unviersity women's lacrosse team won its third straight game by at least 20 goals with a 23-0 victory at Ferrum College on Saturday in an ODAC game.

The Hornets (8-3, 4-0 ODAC) scored 11 goals in the first quarter against the Panthers (2-7, 0-5) with 11 SU players scoring throughout the game.

RECAP

Alex Ripkin won the opening draw control and scored the first goal of the game all within a minute of play. Amy Bell received a shot on goal which was saved, but scored moments later after Sofia Albi recovered the ground ball. Ayla Jantz and Ainsley Buckner scored, putting SU up 4-0, all before the game was three minutes old.

Talia Maria forced a turnover by the Panthers which led to Buckner scoring her second goal of the quarter. Shenandoah quickly went up 6-0 after Julianna Fohner caused a turnover leading to a goal by Jaelyn Hawes.

Sarah Karlinchak made it 7-0 with 6:41 remaining in the first quarter. Less than 30 seconds later, Bell scored on a Grace Thornhill assist. Haley Sullivan successfully won the nex draw control, allowing SU to strike again 32 seconds later with Albi finding the back of the net.

Sullivan and Jantz scored the final two goals of the first quarter for SU as Bell and Thornhill earned the assists.

Ferrum turned over the ball five times in the second quarter as the Hornets scored four more goals, taking a 15-0 lead into halftime. Ripken and Karlinchak added a pair of goals early in hte frame as Buckner and Bell scored in the quarter's final two minutes.

Emily Kempler and Karlinchak each caused a turnover in the third quarter as Buckner and Hawes added the lone goals of the quarter.

In the fourth, Eva Kuri forced an early turnover by the Panthers and Emily Ransom took full advantage of the turnover and scored the 18th goal of the afternoon. Buckner scored two goals in the fourth, capping off her six goal afternoon.

Addison Harmel, Thornhill, and Bell were responsible for the other three goals of the final frame. Agata Gullace added two assists late in the contest for the Hornets.

In four ODAC games this season, Shenandoah has outscored its opponents 91-6.

UP NEXT

The Hornets host Washington and Lee next Saturday at 1 p.m. for the team's Alumnae Appreciation Game.
