Women's Lacrosse Defeated by No. 9 Generals

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's lacrosse team lost 13-11 at home on Saturday in a back-and-forth ODAC game versus No. 9 Washington and Lee.

The Hornets (8-4, 4-1 ODAC) led by three in the first half, but the Generals (11-4, 8-0) went on a 4-0 run with SU unable to regain the lead for the remainder of the game.

RECAP
Shenandoah fired the first shot on goal, but it was the Generals finding the score column first with a goal just over four minutes into the game. Washington and Lee turned over the ball five times in the first which allowed SU to stay within one.

The Hornets finally tied the game with 1:23 left in the frame with an Emily Ransom goal. Right before the quarter ended, Addison Harmel connected with Ainsley Buckner for the buzzer-beater goal, putting SU up 2-1.

Talia Maria, Julianna Fohner, and Kate Vendemia each caused turnovers in the first five minutes of the second. The Vendemia caused turnover, leading to the senior putting SU up 3-1 with 10:51 remaining in the half.

Ransom added her second goal of the game on a free-position shot less than a minute after Vendemia's tally. WLU cut the deficit back down to two, but Amy Bell answered for SU, putting the home team back up by three.

By the end of the first half, Shenandoah's lead was down to one with the Generals striking for three goals and Ayla Jantz adding one for SU.

Washington and Lee tied the game at six 25 seconds into the third quarter and took a one goal lead less than five minutes later. Caitlyn Lepkowski caused a crucial turnover, allowing SU to tie the contest at seven on a goal by Alex Ripkin. However, WLU ended the quarter on a 4-1 run.

Jantz scored again for the Hornets early in the fourth, but WLU's lead quickly stretched to four. Jaelyn Hawes cut the deficit down to three in the middle of the fourth, and with under two minutes left, Ripkin scored the final goal of the game.

Goalie Madison Perry made eight saves in the game.
