Each team stranded three runners through the first two innings, keeping the game scoreless. Lynchburg struck first, scoring on a sacrifice fly in the top of the third with bases loaded. Shenandoah got out of the inning, throwing a runner out at the plate and forcing a groundout to Danielle McNeill at third.

In the bottom of the third, following two quick pop ups to first, Cadence Rieg hit a two-out single with Makayla Cox drawing her first of two walks to keep the inning alive. Brenna Snyder came to the plate and crushed a three-run home run, putting SU in front 3-1.

A Shenandoah throwing error helped Lynchburg cut the deficit to one in the fourth. LYN successfully tied the game on a groundout later in the frame.

Becca Sexton entered the circle in the top of the fifth and retired the first six batters she faced. SU capitalized on Sexton's performance and took a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the sixth on a single to right field by Kara Watkins. Allison McQueeney then led off the bottom of the frame and hit a double down the right field line, advancing to third on a passed ball. The leadoff runner scored on an RBI from Danielle McNeill, with SU leading 1-0 after one.

Gaskins and Smith punched out three LYN batters between the second and fifth inning, allowing just three hits, to keep SU in front.

In the top of the sixth, Lynchburg tied the game at one after a lead off single came around to score. Becca Sexton pitched a one-two-three seventh inning, giving her team the chance to win the game in the seventh.

Shenandoah looked to be in prime position to win the game in the seventh following a lead off double by Brenna Snyder and and one out single by Rachael Blumenschine. However, two straight groundouts sent the game to extras.

Sexton pitched a perfect eighth inning, keeping the game tied for the SU bats. In the bottom of the eighth, Lexie Reid was placed on second base to start the inning and moved to third on a passed ball. In the same at-bat, Reid scored on an error by the visiting Hornets to win the game for Shenandoah, 4-3.
