Buckner Hits 200 Career Draw Controls in 13-6 Win Over Red Devils

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's lacrosse team walked away with a 13-6 win over Dickinson College on Wednesday night in a weather-riddled game at home.

Graduate student Ainsley Buckner secured her 200th career draw control on the opening draw during the Hornets (3-1) win over the Red Devils (3-2). Emily Ransom led the game with four goals and now matches her career high for goals in a season with nine.

Following Buckner's career milestone, the two teams entered a 47-minute lightning delay with two minutes into the contest. Coming out of the delay the Hornets scored lightning fast as Kaitlin Clements found the back of the net. Less than a minute later, Alex Ripkin buried her eighth goal of the season, making it 2-0.

Later in the first, Dickinson picked up two cards, giving SU a two-man advantage. On the advantage, Emily Ransom celebrated her birthday with her first of two goals in the quarter. Ransom's second goal gave Shenandoah a 4-1 lead at the end of the first, following the second weather delay.

Ayla Jantz, a first-year, added an insurance goal for the Hornets on a man-up free position shot early in the second, for a 5-1 lead. Another first-year, Addison Harmel, quickly made it a five-goal game with her second of the year.

A turnover by Shenandoah allowed Dickinson to cut its deficit back down to four. The four-goal deficit didn't last long as Clements tallied her second of the game, on another free position shot, with 7:18 remaining in the half. Dickinson responded with a free-position goal of its own, nearly 90 seconds later. Shenandoah led 7-3 with five minutes to go in the first half.

The Red Devils called a timeout as the Hornets had them trapped in their defensive zone. After the timeout, the visitors came out and cut their deficit down to three on the fourth free-position goal of the second quarter. With 92 seconds left in the half, Dickinson scored its third straight goal, as SU led 7-5. Shenandoah saved a Dickinson shot, which deflected right back to the visitors, and led to another goal. The string of Dickinson goals led to Shenandoah leading 7-6 at halftime.

The run of goals for the Red Devils ended as Ransom scored early in the third quarter for her third goal of the evening. Ransom didn't waste much time to score yet again, as Amy Bell connected with the junior in front of the net to make it 9-6 in favor of the Hornets.

Less than six minutes into the quarter, SU went back up by four as Ripkin went far side and caught the back of the twine for the second time in the game. With rain still falling at Aikens Stadium, the Hornets made it 11-6 as Bell poured in another goal.

Buckner scored her third and fourth goals of the season just 59 seconds apart, giving SU the 13-6 lead with 9:53 remaining, and forcing the Red Devils to call a timeout. Goalie Madison Perry made eight saves in her second win of the season while holding the Red Devils scoreless in the second half.

The Hornets travel to Florida for a pair of spring break games against Haverford College and Franklin and Marshal College next week. The Hornets and Fords start the action on Monday at 12:30 p.m. in Clearwater, Florida.
