In the bottom of the fourth, Shenandoah put seven runs up on the board. Makayla Cox doubled to lead off the inning with Sarah Medellin tying the game two batters later, on a home run to left field.

Following the home run, SU loaded the bases with three consecutive walks. Allison McQueeney singled to right field, keeping the bases loaded, and scoring Brenna Westwood. Rachael Blumenschine then proceeded to put SU up 7-2 on a grand slam to left. A Cox single and two walks loaded the bases once again in the inning but a pop-up to second base left them full.

The Vikings picked up their first hit of the morning in the top of the sixth with a single to center field, putting two on base. A sacrifice bunt pushed both runners into scoring position. Gaskins struck out the next batter, but with two outs the Vikings drew another walk to load the bases. Two singles and another walk scored three runs for Berry, as they now trailed 7-6 heading to the seventh.

In the top of the seventh, a single through the left side tied the game at seven for the Vikings. With two on and one out, the Vikings then hit a triple to right field, clearing the bases and giving them the 9-7 lead. Berry added another run before the inning was over.
With the Vikings now leading 10-7, Westwood doubled to left center in the final frame, with one out. Westwood scored on a Danielle McNeill single to center, bringing SU within two. A punch out and a fly out to center ended the Hornets' upset bid, leaving a runner stranded in scoring position.
