Women's Lacrosse Defeats Lynchburg, 15-6

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's lacrosse team defeated the University of Lynchburg, 15-6, on Saturday at home in an ODAC contest.

SU (10-5, 6-1) used a 5-1 lead after the first quarter to secure the win over LYN (11-4, 5-3), with Ayla Jantz leading the game with five goals.

RECAP

A quick save by Madison Perry transitioned into Alya Jantz's first goal of the afternoon, which put SU ahead 1-0. Perry made her second save of the game, and Caitlyn Lepkowski caused a turnover, allowing Ainsley Buckner to connect with Kaitlin Clements for the second goal of the afternoon.

Lynchburg scored right away, cutting its deficit down to one, but Alex Ripkin scored her 29th goal of the season a minute later to put SU back in front by two. Buckner made it 4-1 later in the quarter on a man-up, free-position goal.

Shenandoah's defense caused three more turnovers, and Perry added a pair of saves to keep them up by three. Late in the quarter, SU took the previously mentioned 5-1 advantage on a goal by Emily Ransom.

Lynchburg came right out in the second quarter and got two of the goals back. However, Jantz scored with 11:11 remaining in the second to extend SU's lead.

The visitors answered four minutes later with a goal of their own to come back within two. A turnover caused by Talia Maria and a ground ball by Addison Harmel led to offense for SU as Buckner picked up another assist on a goal by Amy Bell. Shenandoah ended up with a four-goal lead thanks to the third goal of the game by Jantz.

Perry made three saves in the first 10 minutes of the third quarter as both teams struggled to find offense. The scoreless frame lasted for 11 minutes until Kate Vendemia found the back of the net with her seventh goal of the season.

Before the end of the quarter, Jantz tallied her fourth goal of the game on a man-up opportunity.

Maria won the first draw control of the fourth, which quickly led to Buckner making it 11-4 in favor of SU. Lynchburg cut its deficit to five with two goals over the next three minutes. However, Shenandoah controlled the remainder of the game with Clements, Ripkin, Jantz, and Buckner all adding more goals to their total for the 15-6 win.

Perry made nine saves in her fifth win of the season.
