An errant throw by EMU allowed the leadoff runner to reach third. McQueeney came home to tie the game at one on a sacrifice fly by Cadence Rieg.

An error by the Hornets in the second allowed the inning to continue and for the Royals to regain the lead, 2-1, on a sacrifice fly of their own. EMU made it 3-1 on a groundout with the runner from third scoring in the fourth.

The momentum in the game changed as Danielle McNeill hit a double to start the bottom of the fourth with Brenna Snyder scoring McNeill on a single. Snyder moved to third on a double by Taylor Smith, putting a pair of runners in scoring position with zero outs.

McQueeney continued the inning with a single to center field, scoring Snyder and tying the game. The Hornets took a 4-3 lead on an RBI by Kara Watkins.

Smith worked around a walk and a single in the top of the fifth, allowing the Hornets to extend their lead. SU went up by two on an RBI from McNeill, scoring Rachael Blumenschine. Pinch runner Eliza Hunt then scored on an RBI single by Smith, putting SU in the driver's seat, 6-3.
