Randolph-Macon Powers Past Women's Lacrosse in Overtime Battle

ASHLAND, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's lacrosse team concluded its 2025 road slate with a 13-12 loss in overtime at Randolph-Macon College on Saturday in an ODAC contest.

The Yellow Jackets (12-4, 7-2 ODAC) tied the game with four seconds left in regulation before powering past the Hornets (11-6, 7-2) late in the extra period.

Shenandoah started hot and scored 35 seconds into the game as Emily Ransom tallied first. Two minutes later, first-year Addison Harmel made it 2-0 off an assist from Ainsley Buckner. However, the first quarter ended with RMC in the driver's seat, 5-4, with Buckner and Ransom scoring the other two goals for SU.

Seconds into the second quarter, Ransom collected the hat trick to tie the game at five before Ayla Jantz found the back of the net, putting SU up 6-5. RMC didn't back away and evened the game up again just 16 seconds later.

The high-scoring first half continued with Amy Bell giving the Hornets another lead with 11:32 remaining in the second quarter. Kate Venedmia doubled SU's lead, but RMC's three unanswered goals put the home squad up 9-8 at halftime.

Shenandoah's defense caused two early turnovers, and Maddie Gaboury stopped the first shot of the second half, allowing Alex Ripkin to tie the game at nine. The goal would be SU's only of the frame with RMC taking an 11-9 advantage into the fourth.

It took nearly ten minutes, but Shenandoah came back within one goal with just over 5:40 remaining in regulation on a goal from Buckner. Several minutes later, SU drew a foul, which led to Jantz tying the game at 11 on a free-position goal.

With under a minute left, SU's offense drew another foul, setting up a free-position attempt. Sofia Albi took full advantage of the attempt and put the Hornets up one, 12-11, with 51 seconds left on the clock.

The Yellow Jackets quickly put the pressure on the Hornets, firing a shot on goal with 15 seconds left, which Gaboury saved. Unfortunately, RMC picked up the loose ball and got another shot off, this time tying the game at 12 with four seconds remaining in the fourth.

In the overtime period, Shenandoah only got one shot off, which went high, and the Yellow Jackets gained possession and scored the game-winning goal with 26 seconds left.

UP NEXT

The Hornets round out the regular season on Wednesday at home against Roanoke. The game is slated for a 5 p.m. start.
