Women's Tennis Rounds Out ODAC Play with Win

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's tennis team closed out regular season ODAC play at home on Thursday afternoon with a 5-2 win over the University of Lynchburg.

SU (9–6, 6-4 ODAC) is currently the sixth seed in the ODAC tournament after the win over LYN (8-6, 4-5). The conference wraps up its regular season on Sunday, with the tournament set to start on Tuesday.

Shenandoah came out strong in doubles play, sweeping all three matches to claim the opening point. The top duo of Tanea Spruill and Olivia Guzzo set the tone with a 6-4 win, followed by 6-0 and 6-3 victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions by Allison Cherwien/Erin Talko and Kendra Gillette/Leigha Montrief, respectively.

SU carried that momentum into singles, securing wins in four of six matches. Spruill was flawless at No. 1 singles, rolling to a 6-0, 6-2 win, while Guzzo followed suit at No. 2 with a 6-0, 6-4 victory.

Talko and Gillette also picked up straight-set wins at No. 4 and No. 5, with Gillette surviving a tight second-set tiebreaker.
