Ravenkamp Pitches Complete Game in Split with Eagles

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University softball team took to the field for its second doubleheader of the season, splitting with Juniata College on Saturday at home.

The Hornets (3-1) picked up a game one 9-1 win behind a complete game from Gracie Ravenkamp. The Eagles (1-1) then took game two, 4-2.

GAME ONE RECAP

Allison McQueeney started the day for SU with a single that started a three-run first inning for the home team. McQueeney and Cadence Rieg crossed home plate to open the scoring thanks to an RBI single from Makayla Cox. Cox then scored off a throwing error by the Eagles, making it 3-0.

In the very next inning, the Hornets pieced together four hits to drive home three more runs. Rieg hit a two-RBI double to right center to score McQueeney and Marisa Sawn, before Keagan Cooper made it 6-0 with a double to left.

Back-to-back RBI hits from McQueeney and Rieg made it 8-0 in the fourth. In the top of the fifth, Juniata avoided being run-ruled for the time being with a one-out single to left that scored the leadoff runner.

In the bottom of the fifth, SU was able to complete the early victory with an RBI single by first-year Payton Jensen.

Gracie Ravenkamp (2-0) pitched a complete game, going five innings, allowing two hits, and striking out six.

McQueeney and Rieg combined for a five-hit game at the plate and five runs scored.

GAME TWO RECAP

Juniata scored early in game two, scoring twice in the second. The first runner scored on a single to center field, while another hit to the outfield scored the second runner with two outs in the inning. A two-out single in the third made it 3-0 in favor of the visitors.

In the bottom of the fourth, after the first two batters were retired, an error by the Eagles kept the inning going for SU. Lu Cirillo scored off a double by Sarah Medellin. Payton Jensen then immediately singled to left, scoring Medellin, and cutting the deficit to one.

Juniata retired the final eight SU batters of the day to keep its slim lead and win 4-2 after adding another two-out run in the sixth.

Cadence Rieg led Shenandoah with two hits in the game.
