Baseball Concludes Mr. V Memorial Tournament with Walk-Off Win

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University baseball team concluded the 2026 Mr. V Memorial Tournament with a 5-4 walk-off win over Oswego State on Sunday at home.

The Hornets (9-0) were down by two entering the bottom of the ninth and scored three runs, completed by the game-winning, bases-loaded single by Dillon Mauzy to down the Lakeers (0-6).

RECAP
Two consecutive hits by the Lakers to start the game put them up 1-0 with no outs on the board yet. By the end of the first half inning, the visitors led 2-0 following a groundball to shortstop that brought home a run.

After the two-run first inning, starter Michael Meyers settled down and went the next three innings, allowing no more runs and giving up just three hits. Meyers' efforts helped the Hornets cut their deficit to one with a run in the third, scoring by Christian Carver.

Nick Bell went to the mound after Meyers and pitched two perfect innings, striking out one.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Hornets tied the game at two as Jaime Padilla delivered a single to center field that brought Carl Keenan home following an error by the Lakers' outfield.

Joey Mitchell replaced Bell on the mound in the seventh and pitched a scoreless inning despite two hits by the Lakers. In the bottom of the inning, SU had a chance to take the lead but left a runner in scoring position with an inning-ending strikeout.

The Lakers then regained the lead with a two-run eighth that was aided by two errors by the Hornets. The eighth inning then saw the Hornets leave another man in scoring position, allowing the Lakers to carry their lead to the ninth.

Liam Stewart (1-0) made his second appearance of the season when he entered to pitch in the ninth and retired the side in order.

The Hornets then came to bat, looking to put together a rally, down to their final three outs. The inning started with a walk to Anthony Arrichiello before he scored the very next at-bat off a double from Kemper Omps.

Now down one, the Hornets were able to load the bases with a walk to Adham Sahebzadah and Keenan. With the bases now loaded, Kyle Garrett lined a ball that dropped for a single in center field for the game-tying RBI. Then, Dillon Mauzy won the game for the Hornets with his RBI single to left center that scored Sahebzadah.

The first third of the Hornets' batting order, Keenan, Garrett, and Mauzy all had two hits in the win.

Catcher JP Williams threw two runners out on stolen base attempts. The SU pitching staff didn't allow any walks or hit-by-pitches.
