Baseball Defeats Immaculata Behind Strong Start and Finish

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University baseball team won its second game of the Mr. V Memorial Tournament with a 13-3 win in eight innings against Immaculata University.

The Hornets (8-0) scored six runs in the eighth inning to run-rule the Mighty Macs (1-1). Kemper Omps led the Hornets with four hits, while Jaime Padilla drove in a team-high three RBI.

RECAP

Shenandoah scored in the first inning for the sixth time this season to grab a 3-0 lead. Kyle Garrett scored the first run of the day after Jaime Padilla drove him in with an RBI double to right-center. Padilla then made it 2-0 as he and Tyler Smith perfectly executed a double steal. With Smith on second, JP Williams hit a high fly ball that landed for an RBI triple, as the Might Macs' outfielder lost the ball in the air.

Immaculata hit a two-run home run in the top of the second to cut SU's lead to one.

Following the Mighty Macs' home run, Shenandoah scored three more runs to make it 6-2. Kemper Omps scored on a sacrifice fly by Carl Keenan, and Jacob Martin and Garrett both came around to score on another RBI double by Padilla.

Blaine Griffin (3-0) started on the mound for the Hornets and pitched five innings with six strikeouts.

In the bottom of the fifth, SU added to its lead with an RBI single through the right side by pinch hitter Adham Sahebzadah. Two singles and a sacrifice bunt allowed Immaculata to score a run in the sixth on a groundout to third.

Dominic D'Ottavio and Kody Dobyns combined for the final two innings on the bump for the home team. The duo gave up just two hits and one walk combined.

In the bottom of the eighth, Shenandoah batted around the order, scoring six runs. Williams doubled home Padilla, and Matthew Atchley singled home Smith to make it 9-3. Omps added his fourth and final hit of the day with an RBI single that plated Williams. Two batters later, another sacrifice fly by Keenan made it 11-3. 

The game ended as Dillion Mauzy hit an infield single that was lost by the defense, which allowed Omps and Christian Carver to score the game-ending runs.

Shenandoah stole five bases in the game, led by two from Padilla. Padilla also had three of the team's seven extra-base hits.

UP NEXT

The Hornets host Oswego St. on Sunday at 1 p.m. in the final game of the 2026 Mr. V Memorial Tournament.
