Men’s Golf Claims Fernandina Beach Collegiate Title

SU B and C teams finish 10th and 9th

FERNANDINA BEACH, FL - Shenandoah Men's Golf concluded the final round of the Fernandina Beach Collegiate on Tuesday. SU's A team claimed a team title that came down to the final hole, defeating #21 Transylvania and Swarthmore, who had opened the event at -11 through two rounds.

A Team Recap
After entering day 2, shooting a 578 (+2) through two rounds (292 in round 1, 286 in round 2), the Hornets' 'A' Team completed the third round by shooting 280 (-8), the best score out of the 12-team field in round three, and the lone team under par. The team would finish with a team score of 858 (-6) to claim the event title.

First year Conor McCarthy led the pack with a 68 (-4), tallying 4 birdies through his 18-hole final round. He finished the weekend at 219 (+1) to place him 6th overall.

Senior Dan Ailor was the Hornets' highest individual finisher through the three rounds, finishing 2nd overall at 211 (-5). In round three, Ailor shot a 69 (-3) with 6 birdies and 3 bogeys on the day. Ailor follows up his individual win at last week's Port City Classic with a silver in this event.

Braden Hermansky also shot under par in round three, shooting a 71 (-1) with three birdies and two bogeys. He finishes the event 8th overall - the third Hornet in the top 10 - shooting 220 (+2).

Caden Sherman was the final scorer for the Hornets in round three, shooting an even 72 with an even 4-birdie, 4-bogey split. Overall, he finished 23rd in the field with a 228 (+10)

Will McClintock finished the event in the top 15 after shooting a 74 (+2) in round three, giving him a final score of 224 (+6).

Ben Gray rounds out the Hornets' 'A' Team as he finished 26th overall with a 230 (+12), shooting 82 (+10) in round three.

The Hornets' 'A"' Team all placed within the top 26 of a 78-player field, and were one of only three teams to finish under par for the event.

The 'A' Team also led the field in birdies, tallying 61 through three rounds.

B Team Recap
The 'B' team closed out the event with a 10th-place finish and a team score of 933 (+69).

Price Whitaker led the final round for the Hornets, shooting 79 (+7) on the day. He finishes in 32nd overall with a total score of 231 (+15).

Davis Hutchins matched Whitaker's score of 79 (+7) today, finishing the event 52nd overall at 237 (+21).

Connor Christie finished a stroke behind at 80 (+8) and took a 44th-place overall finish with a 235 (+19) through his three rounds.

Seth Curry also closed out his third round with an 80 (+8) and finished 65th overall with a 244 (+28).

Brian Slaughter rounded out the day for the 'B' team with a round three score of 87 (+15) and an overall finish in 57th with a 240 (+24).

C Team Recap
The Hornets' 'C' Team bested its 'B Team counterparts by finishing in 9th place overall at 931 (+67).

Maddox Mallard led the pack, as he finished round three with a 73 (+1), and placed 26th overall with a 228 (+12).

Louie Maniacci concluded round three with a 78 (+6), placing him 44th overall with a total score of 235 (+19).

Harrison Carter closed out his three rounds, finishing with a 79 (+7) in round three, and shot 230 (+14) for a 29th-place finish.

Connor Reinhard rounded out the scoring in round three with an 80 (+8), finishing the event in 62nd place with a 241 (+25).

David Mann and Will Gronlund were the final two golfers in the group, finishing in 65th and 69th place, shooting 81 (+9) and 83 (+11) in round three, and 244 (+28) and 246 (+30) overall, respectively.

UP NEXT
The Hornets head to Jekyll Island, GA, for the annual Jekyll Island Invitational hosted by Oglethorpe. The three-day event tees off on Friday, March 20th.
