Women's Lacrosse Drops Midweek Game at Catholic

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Shenandoah University women's lacrosse team lost a midweek afternoon non-conference game at Catholic University of America on Wednesday, 14-5.

The Hornets (5-2) were outshot 37-15 in the game, while the Cardinals (2-3) held an 8-2 lead at halftime to lead them to the midweek win.

RECAP

Shenandoah tied the game at one in the first with a Cecelia Rock goal off a Natalie Opatovsky assist, a little over six minutes into the game. Catholic ended the first quarter on a 3-0 run, putting them in front 4-1.

The Cardinals scored on the opening possession of the second quarter, with Shenandoah gaining a goal from Emily Ransom, 80 seconds later. However, once again, Catholic ended the quarter on a 3-0 run for an 8-2 halftime lead.

The host put the first two goals on the board in the third, while Cameryn Bowker found the back of the net for the Hornets, making it 10-3. Sofia Albi earned an assist on Bowker's marker.

After Catholic made it 11-3, Shenandoah got back-to-back goals in the fourth. First, Bowker connected with Addison Harmel for the first of two goals, with the duo then connecting again for the latter. However, for the third time in the game, Catholic ended the frame on a 3-0 run.

Maddie Gaboury made seven saves in goal for Shenandoah. Nicole Graham and Talia Maria each had two caused turnovers, while Maria and Ayla Jantz had two draw controls each.

UP NEXT

Shenandoah hosts Christopher Newport University next Wednesday at 5 p.m.
