Men's Lacrosse Defeated by Tigers in First Conference Game

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. - The Shenandoah University men's lacrosse team lost 20-7 in the team's first ODAC game of the season at Hampden-Sydney College on Saturday afternoon.

A seven-goal first quarter by the Tigers (4-3, 2-0 ODAC) led them the rest of the way in their win over the Hornets (2-6, 0-1).

RECAP

Within the first minute of the game, the Tigers gained a 2-0 lead before the Hornets found the scoring column with a goal from Xavier Parker, assisted by Lucas Brooks. Hampden-Sydney closed out the first with five goals in the final nine minutes.

The Tigers extended its lead to 9-1 early in the second, prior to Cody Griffis scoring for the Hornets to make it 9-2 with 10:18 remaining in the first half. The Tigers held the Hornets scoreless for the rest of the period, which helped them take an 11-2 halftime lead.

Griffis started the second half with his second goal of the game, but the Tigers rattled off eight straight goals in the quarter. Shenandoah caught some momentum at the end of the third, scoring two goals with markers from Luke Petrie and Ryan Ho.

The Hornets outscored the Tigers 2-1 in the final quarter of the game, with a goal early by Liam Arnsmeyer and a tally in the final minute by Ryan Eager.

Brody McClure won seven faceoffs for the Hornets, while Braxton Snead won the other six for the team.

UP NEXT

The Hornets host Randolph-Macon next Saturday at 1 p.m. in ODAC play.
