Softball Sweeps RMC for First Time Since 2010

WINCHESTER, Va. - For the first time since 2010, the Shenandoah University softball team swept No. 24 Randolph-Macon College on Thursday at home in the team's ODAC opener.

The Hornets (13-3, 2-0 ODAC) took game one 4-1 behind a two-run home run by Paige Eagleton, before the Yellow Jackets (10-8, 0-2) left the bases loaded in the seventh inning of SU's game two 2-1 win. Additionally, with five stolen bases on the day, Allison McQueeney now holds the program's career record for stolen bases with 54.

The wins marked Shenandoah's first victory over a ranked opponent since defeating No. 1 Virginia Wesleyan University in 2021.

GAME ONE RECAP

In the bottom of the third, after being walked, Allison McQueeney stole her first of five bases on the day. Cadence Rieg was then walked, which led to Makayla Cox hitting an infield double for an RBI, which scored McQueeney.

In the next inning, with Payton Jensen on base, Paige Eagleton came to the plate and hit a two-run shot to right center to put the Hornets up 3-0. In the sixth, McQueeney scored for the second time in the game as Rieg hit a two-out RBI single through the left side.

Randolph-Macon added its only run of the game on a two-out error by the Hornets in the seventh inning.

Gracie Ravenkamp (7-0) pitched another complete game, allowing three hits, zero earned runs, with one strikeout.

GAME TWO RECAP

Pitching dominated the first five innings of the game, with both teams failing to score. Meghan Gaskins got the game two start for the Hornets and went five innings with a pair of strikeouts and one three-up, three-down inning.

In the bottom of the sixth, an RMC error, plus a wild pitch, allowed Paige Eagleton to come across the plate for the first run of the game. The wild pitch put Sydney Adler on third, which allowed her to make it a 2-0 game as she scored on an RBI from Sarah Connell.

The Yellow Jackets cut their deficit to one with a solo home run in the seventh. Following the home run, the next three batters reached to load the bases with one out on the board. However, the Hornets got out of the jam with two straight groundouts, giving them the sweep.

Cadence Rieg (2-3) pitched the final two innings for the Hornets, giving her the win in the circle.

Keagan Cooper led the Hornets in hits with two.
