Sherman Leads Men's Golf After First Round at Jekyll Island

JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga - The Shenandoah University men's golf team opened play today at the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational and is in 16th place out of 30 teams. The Hornets, starting on the back nine, carded a +4 292 in the opening round on the Pine Lakes Golf Course. 

Caden Sherman led the way for the Hornets with an opening round of 69 (-3). Sherman went three under on his first nine holes with three birdies and six pars. He followed up with an even par 36 on his back nine with one birdie and one bogey. Sherman is in a tie for 15th after round one. 

First-year players William McClintock and Braden Hermansky both carded rounds of 74 (+2) in today's round. McClintock had a front and back nine score of 37 with one birdie on each side. Hermansky was two over on his first nine with one birdie and followed that up with a back-nine score of even par, also with one birdie. McClintock and Hermansky are in a tie for 68th. 

Dan Ailor was the fourth and final score to count for the Hornets in round one with a score of 75 (+3). Ailor opened his day with a 40 on his first nine holes with one birdie. Ailor then went on to shoot 35 (-1) on his back nine with three birdies. Ailor is in a tie for 85th. 

Conor McCarthy rounded out the Hornets' play today with a score of 77 (+5). McCarthy shot 41 on his first nine holes with an eagle on hole 15 and a birdie on hole 18. He followed that up with nine straight pars to end his round on his second nine. McCarthy sits in a tie for 118th after round one.  

UP NEXT

The Hornets are back in action tomorrow morning for round two, with tee times starting at 9:25 a.m., again starting their round on the back nine. The Hornets sit in a great position to move up the leaderboard on Saturday.
