Men's Golf Concludes Trip to Jekyll Island

JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga - The Shenandoah University men's golf team concluded its three-day tournament at Jekyll Island Golf Club, Pine Lakes Course on Sunday. The Hornets posted a third-round score of 298 (+10), adding up to a total of 883 (+19), finishing in a tie for 20th with the University of Redlands in a competitive 30-team field. 

William McClintock led the way for Shenandoah today with the only score under par for the team, shooting 71 (-1).  Moving up 21 places, he had a very consistent round with two birdies, one bogey, and 15 pars. McClintock finished the tournament with the most pars (41) in the whole field over the tournament's 54 holes. McClintock finished in a tie for 77th. 

Caden Sherman came back strong in the final round with a round of 75 (+3). Sherman got off to a rocky start bogeying his first two holes, but was able to recover and go one under in his next 13 holes before bogeying two of his last three to finish the day. Sherman finished in 123rd place for the tournament. 

Braden Hermansky and Conor McCarthy were the two other Hornet golfers to contribute to the team score in Sunday's final round, both shooting 76 (+4). Hermansky finished the tournament in a tie for 60th, and McCarthy finished in a tie for 126th. Hermansky got off to a great start on his first nine holes, shooting 35 (-1), highlighted by three birdies. Hermansky was able to make five pars on his back nine, but in the end finished with a 41 (+5). McCarthy did the opposite of Hermansky; as he did not get off to a great start, shooting 41(+5) on his first nine holes. But McCarthy was able to finish strong with a 35 (-1) on his back nine with eight pars and one birdie.  

Dan Ailor shot a final round score of 79 (+7), though his score did not count toward the team total. Ailor finished the tournament in a tie for 101st place. Ailor had a mix of bogeys and pars on his first nine holes, shooting 41 (+5). Moving onto his back nine, Ailor was able to make eight pars, but a double bogey on hole six led to a 38 (+2). 

Huntingdon College won the team title at the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational with a team score of 826, finishing -38 for the tournament. Around the ODAC, Washington and Lee placed second at -28, while Lynchburg finished in a tie for 12th at +4. Hampden-Sydney finished eight strokes ahead of Shenandoah at a score of +11. The Hornets were able to top Guilford, Randolph-Macon, and Roanoke with scores of +24, +34, and +37, respectively. 

The Hornets will have a couple of weeks off before heading to Williamsburg, VA, to compete in the Sam Sneed Intercollegiate at Golden Horseshoe Golf Club on April 13th and 14th.
