JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga - The Shenandoah University men's golf team concluded play in Saturday's second round of the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational with a team score of +5 293. The Hornets had two golfers shoot under par on Saturday. The team sits in a tie for 19th place alongside Redlands and Amherst with a cumulative score of +9 585.
Braden Hermansky led the Hornets in today's second round with a score of 68 (-4), placing him in a tie for 30th overall. Hermansky got off to a steady start with five straight pars and finished with two birdies and one bogey to finish off his front nine. He caught fire on his back nine, going four under in eight holes before bogeying his last hole of the day.
Dan Ailor was the other Hornet golfer to shoot under par with a score of 71 (-1). Ailor finished his front nine strongly, birdieing three out of the last four holes, giving him a score of 34 (-2). Ailor could not find any birdies on his back nine, but was able to finish strong with eight pars and one bogey. Ailor sits in a tie for 68th place.
William McClintock contributed to the team's score today with a round of 76 (+4). McClintock had a steady round with 14 pars. A stretch of four bogeys in a row on his front nine led to a score of 40. He came back strong with nine pars in a row on the back to finish out his round. McClintock is currently in a tie for 98th place.
Conor McCarthy shot a round of 78 (+6) and was the last score to count for the Hornets today. McCarthy is sitting in a tie for 136th place after Saturday's round. He started his round steady and was even par through eight holes. McCarthy then hit a tough stretch of holes before finishing strong, going one under in his final five holes of the day.
Caden Sherman rounded out the team today with a round of 85 (+13) and is now in a tie for 133rd place. Sherman was able to card one birdie on his first nine on hole 15 before dropping a few shots and finishing with a score of 42 (+6). Sherman had four pars on his back nine and finished with a score of 43 (+7).
Shenandoah concludes the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational tomorrow on the Pine Lakes course. The Hornets aim to finish strong in a deep, talented field with 24 of the top 50 teams in the nation competing.
