Track and Field Continues Action at Shamrock Invitational

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Shenanodah University outdoor track and field teams stayed in South Carolina for day two of the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational on Friday with two program records broken on the women's side.

The women's A' 4x800m relay team broke one of the records, while Kaitlyn Loy broke the record in the pole vault.

The day on the track started for the Hornets with Emily Bultema running a 5:45.04 for seventh in the women's open mile. In the men's open mile, Ethan Beaugez placed eighth at 4:51.82, as both SU runners set a personal record.

Kyle Corpin and Jaidan Cameron both raced in the men's 400m open. Corpin was the first of the duo to cross, finishing in 24th at 54.28 seconds. Cameron ran a 54.68 to come in five spots behind Corpin.

The Hornets had a total of four runners compete in the two 100m prelims. Myah Powell-Utley represented the SU women with a 12.87. Wyatt Newcome (11.46), Sean Rosner (11.48), and Demorris Eubanks (11.55) were the three Hornets to race on the men's side of the 100m.

Four Shenandoah runners took to the track for the women's 800m open. Makenna Thrush crossed first for SU in 14th at 2:38.94, and Bultema came in next for Shenandoah with a 2:42.60. Rounding out the pack of Hornets were Lauren Tooman, 2:47.65, and Rylee Miller with a 2:51.59.

Three men also ran in the 800m open for Shenandoah. Zack Hamacher finished in 2:10.49, finishing first out of the SU trio. Isaac Clarke and Beaugez wrapped up with exactly a one-second difference from each other, with Clarke running the tad better time of 2:17.57.

In the first relay of the day, the SU women broke the program record and took home seventh in the 4x800m. The team of Maddy Chorney, Bultema, Grace Semow, and Amy Oleksy completed the relay in 10:18.43. The Hornets also had a 'B' team in the race, with the pairing of Emilie Gaudron, Cora Helman, Sarah Lane, and Arial Crawford competing for ninth with a time of 11:07.71.

Shenandoah's 'A' team, consisting of Roman Bernard, Corpin, Brayden Shotwell, and Nathan Lee, ran in the men's 4x800m relay and finished at 8:29.62 for ninth. The 'B' team of Bryce Scholz, Sebastian Berrios, Clarke, and Will Ashley finished 16th at 9:11.47.

The day on the track was concluded with the 5,000m races. First, for the women, Chorney wrapped up inside the top 10 with 19:17.45. Gaudron and Tooman placed 12th and 14th, respectively. Crawford and Miller finished out the top 20 runners in the women's race. On the men's side, Caleb Beiswenger ran a time of 16:16.84 for 17th. Corey Christiensen, Brenden Maloy, and Beaugez each finished within four spots of each other. Tyler Mullen closed out the day on the track for the Hornets, with a 17:36.22 in the race.

In his first outdoor event, Zachary Sheehan hit a 6.13m jump in the men's long jump, while Kaitlyn Loy jumped a 4.53m mark in the women's seeded long jump. Loy also competed in the open pole vault and placed eighth with a 2.75m, setting a school record, the first by the Hornets this outdoor season.

In the men's javelin, Mekhi Mims set a new personal record with a heave of 39.58m, which gave him 24th in the event. Mims smashed his previous best by 6.90m. In the same event, Grady Speer also set a PR with a toss of 34.03m.

Molly Donaldson threw a 30.33m toss in the women's hammer throw for her first career marker in the event.
