Track and Field Wraps Up Time at Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Shenandoah University outdoor track and field teams concluded their opening invitational of the season on Saturday with the third and final day of the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational.

The Hornets women's team placed 14th this week and the men earned 22nd. Throughout the three days, the Hornets set three school records and 57 personal records.

TRACK RECAP

In the first track event of the day, Maddy Chorney set the women's program record in the 3,000m with a finish of 10:47.79, beating the previous record by 3.02 seconds. Chorney placed 12th, while Amy Oleksy and Grace Semow took home 13th and 14th, respectively. Oleksy wrapped up the race in 11:06.69 for the fifth all-time mark for the program, and Semow had an eighth all-time showing with a 11:22.33. Emilie Gaudron finished 18th at 11:32.10.

Will Ashley finished 11th in the men's 3,000m with a time of 9:16.26 for the fourth-best mark for the SU men all-time. Nathan Lee crossed next for the Hornets at 9:36.33 for 20th. Zack Hamacher finished in 28th with a 9:48.20. Jack Baker and Grady Baggett rounded out the event for the Hornets with times of 11:01.70 and 15:12.18.

The Hornets had a team compete in the men's 4x100m collegiate event, with Wyatt Newcome, Jaidan Cameron, Demorris Eubanks, and Sean Rosner completing the relay in 43.97 for 20th. Newcome also ran in the 400m hurdles and placed 41st with a time of 1:03.15.

In the women's one mile on Saturday, Cora Helman ran a personal best of 5:47.64 for seventh all-time in the program. Makenna Thrush came in right behind Helman at 5:48.96. Sarah Lane and Lauren Tooman, both racing in heat three with Helman, ran times of 6:10.89 and 6:20.22, respectively.

In the men's mile, Brayden Shotwell, Sebastian Berrios, and Brenden Maloy all finished within 1.31 seconds of each other. The trio each sit in fifth, sixth, and seventh all-time now for the program's mile times.

Roman Bernard, competing in heat six, ran the second-best all-time mark for the Hornets in the men's 400m with his time of 49.96 for 33rd in today's event. Over in the men's 800m, Lee was the lone Hornet in the event, running a 2:02.28.

Myah Powell-Utley was one of 93 runners in the women's 200m today and placed 60th, crossing the line at 26.92 seconds, which is eighth all-time in the event for the Hornets. Rosner was the only Hornet to race in the event on the men's side and finished at 23.69 seconds in his first-ever attempt in the event.

Shenandoah had five total competitors between the two 3,000m steeplechase events. For the women, Arial Crawford finished the steeplechase in 13:33.96. On the men's side, Caleb Beiswenger (10:36.42), Shane Lyons (11:06.40), John Buckley (11:20.05), and Bryce Scholz (12:42.77) represented the Hornets. 

The final track events of the weekend were both of the 4x400m relays. For the women, Elaina Ramos, Chorney, Semow, and Oleksy ran a 4:21.03, and Newcome, Zachary Sheehan, Kyle Corpin, and Bernard ran a 3:29.85 for the men, placing 14th.

FIELD RECAP

The day in the field started with Grady Speer, Luke Jacobs, and Sawyer Paine competing in the men's discus. Speer threw 36.44m for 37th, Jacobs placed 47th at 31.55m, and Paine had a 23.94m throw for 56th. Speer and Jacobs also competed in the shot put, hitting 11.10m and 10.72m, respectively.

The first women's event in the field was the shot put, and Molly Donaldson had the best showing of Division III athletes with a 12.12m toss for eighth-place, which is also the second-best mark all-time for SU. The first-year also placed 26th in the discus with a 30.31m mark.

Mekhi Mims placed sixth in the men's high jump open at a height of 1.88m, which he hit on his third attempt.

In the women's triple jump open, Elaina Ramos set the program's fourth-best jump all-time at 10.08m. Kaitlyn Loy finished two spots ahead of Ramos in sixth with a leap of 10.32m. Zachary Sheehan was the final Hornet to compete in the field on Saturday, jumping 13.46m in the men's triple jump for 26th. His jump is the third-best all-time for SU.
