Men's Lacrosse Picks Up First ODAC Win of the Season

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University men's lacrosse team earned its first ODAC win of the season, snapping a five-game losing streak, with a 19-8 home win over Guilford College on Saturday afternoon.

The Hornets (3-8, 1-3 ODAC) scored the most points in a game this season in the win over the Quakers (1-6, 0-3) with 12 Hornets finding the back of the net in the game.

RECAP

Guilford scored on the first shot of the game, but Shenandoah responded a minute later with a Cody Griffis goal on its first shot of the afternoon. A Quaker penalty led to Ryan Ho scoring on a man-up opportunity with Liam Arnsmeyer earning the assist.

In the middle of the first, Dylan Foughty struck twice to make it 4-1 Shenandoah, while Griffis scored his second of the game to push the lead to five. With 90 seconds left on the clock, Arnsmeyer picked up another assist with Noah Nolt making it 6-1.

On the first possession of the second, Arnsmeyer found the back of the net for SU's seventh unanswered goal, assisted by Nolt. Following a Quaker goal, Arnsmeyer added another point to his afternoon with a goal to make it 8-2, with a helper from Jake Green.

Arnsmeyer continued his strong first half, with an assist to D.J. Lee on Shenandoah's ninth goal of the day. The teams then traded markers as Sam Poster and Nolt scored for the Hornets, with the home team leading 11-4.

Kennedy Duda picked up a groundball on a caused turnover by Wyatt Gessner and ran down the field and went five hole for a 12-4 advantage. Then, as time expired in the first half, Jake Green scored from near midfield to push SU's lead to nine at halftime.

The Hornets started the second half with goals by Green and Nolt, while Guilford ended the third on a 3-0 run. Shenandoah led 15-7 entering the fourth.

Lucas Brooks recorded his first career goal to get the scoring started in the fourth. Guilford then tallied its final goal of the game. Then, another Hornet picked up their first career goal, with Parker Brown scoring. The Hornets concluded their afternoon with goals from Xavier Parker and Green.

Arnsmeyer led Shenandoah with a six-point day, collecting two goals and four assists. Green and Nolt finished with five points each. Nolt also led the team with five groundballs and tied for the team-high in caused turnovers with two, tying with Arnsmeyer, Foughty, and Zack Dobson.
