Ripkin's Final Minute Game-Winner Propels Hornets to Victory

CARLISLE, Pa. - The Shenandoah University women's lacrosse team scored in the final seconds of a back-and-forth road game to win 11-10 over Dickinson College.

Alex Ripkin provided the Hornets (5-0) with the game-winning goal with 13 seconds left after the Red Devils (3-2) tied the game with minutes left. Ripkin and Addison Harmel led the Hornets with three goals each.

RECAP

Shenandoah scored on the first possession of the game off a goal from Ayla Jantz. Less than a minute later, the Red Devils scored on their first shot of the game, tying it at one. Addison Harmel gave the lead back to the Hornets with a woman-up goal with an assist from Sarah Karlinchak. However, Dickinson tied the game once again with another goal seconds after the Hornets scored.

The Hornets pulled ahead late in the opening frame, scoring three straight times for a 5-2 lead. Alex Ripkin scored her first of the night, with Natalie Opatovsky finding Harmel just a minute later. The final goal of the first came from Ripkin on a free position shot.

Opatovsky and Harmel connected again early in the second, with Harmel completing the hat trick to push SU's lead to four, 6-2. In the final half of the quarter, Dickinson scored three goals of its own, pulling within one. However, the Hornets would carry a two-goal lead into halftime thanks to an Emily Ransom marker.

Dickinson struck first in the third quarter, but once again the Hornets would grab a two-goal advantage on another woman-up opportunity, with Kaitlin Clements providing the goal. Dickinson then scored the next two, tying the game for the third time. With just over two minutes remaining in the third, Opatovsky added her third assist of the evening when Keira Choi gave SU the lead, 9-8.

The fourth was the lowest-scoring quarter of the game, as the Red Devils were able to tie the game two more times. With the game tied and under one minute to go, the Hornets picked up a key save and transitioned it to Ripkin's game-winner.

Ripkin finished the game with three goals, three ground balls, four draw controls, and two caused turnovers. Lindsay McCrory added three draw controls for SU.
