Softball Splits Day Two Action in Florida

MELBOURNE, Fla. - On day two of their spring break trip to Florida, the Shenandoah University softball team split its two games on Sunday, defeating Wisconsin Lutheran College 12-1 in five innings. The Hornets (6-2) ended their day with a 3-1 loss to Wisconsin-Superior.

WISCONSIN LUTHERAN RECAP

Shenandoah scored first in the game off a Cadence Rieg RBI single in the first that scored Allison McQueeney. McQueeney had two stolen bags in the first. In the fourth, Wisconsin Lutheran tied the game at one on a single to center field.

The Hornets sent 16 batters to the plate in the bottom of the fourth, which helped them break the game wide open. Marisa Sawn had an RBI single in the inning, which scored Sarah Connell, while Lu Cirillo also came around to score on an error by the Warriors (1-1). Shenandoah then grabbed a 5-1 lead on a double by Paige Eagleton.

Later in the inning, Rieg and Keagan Cooper had RBI singles to make it 7-1 with no outs. The next at-bat, Connell hit a double to left center, which brought Makayla Cox and Cooper, putting SU up 9-1. An RBI by Brenna Westwood and another error by the Warriors put three more runs on the board for Shenandoah in the inning.

The Hornets ended the fourth with 11 runs, eight hits, and four Warrior errors.

Gracie Ravenkamp (4-0) pitched another complete game, her second in as many days. The pitcher went five innings, allowed five hits, walked one, and struck out five.

Rieg and Eagleton each had two hits in the game, along with two RBI.

WISCONSIN-SUPERIOR RECAP

On a full count in the top of the first, Cadence Rieg hit a solo home run to left field for a 1-0 lead. The teams went scoreless for the next three innings until the Yellow Jackets (4-4) added two runs in the fourth to take the lead.

After the Hornets were sat down in order in the fifth, the Yellow Jackets added one more run to extend their lead to two. The Hornets were unable to score for the remainder of the game, giving the Yellow Jackets the lead.

Shenandoah only had one runner in scoring position in the game, which was a triple by Sydney Adler in the top of the seventh.
