Jantz Leads Women's Lacrosse to Dominant ODAC Win

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's lacrosse team earned its second straight double-digit ODAC win with a 19-5 victory over Bridgewater College on Wednesday night at home.

The Hornets (8-4, 4-0 ODAC) were led by six points from Ayla Jantz and Natalie Opatovsky. Jantz scored six times against the Eagles (6-5, 1-2), while Opatovsky added four goals and a pair of assists.

It only took two shots for the Hornets to strike as Addison Harmel scored on Natalie Opatovsky's first assist of the day. The Eagles then tied the game but Ayla Jantz and Emily Ransom quickly gave SU a 3-1 lead, with Ransom scoring on a free position shot.

Following Bridgewater cutting its deficit to one, 3-2, the Hornets ended the first quarter strong with three more goals from Jantz and goals from Opatovsky and Alex Ripkin to put SU up 8-2 at the end of one.

Shenandoah's defense played strong in the first five minutes of the second to maintain the large lead with caused turnovers by Harmel and Nicole Graham. This allowed Harmel to score once again to push SU's lead to seven.

Bridgewater scored its final goal of the first half with 9:08 left and the Hornets proceeded to respond with man-up goals by Opatovsky and Jantz. The Hornets ended the first half with goals in the final minutes by Ransom and Jantz, carrying a 13-3 lead into the second half.

Now playing with a running clock Opatovsky picked up another goal seven minutes into the third on an assist from Harmel. Roughly three minutes later Opatovsky added her final goal of the evening. Harmel closed out the third with another free-position goal for Shenandoah.

The Hornets played with a running clock for the rest of the game as the Eagles scored twice in the final frame and the hosts earned markers from Taryn Junta, Grace Thornhill, and Ransom.

The Hornets were a perfect 10-for-10 on clears and converted 60 percent of their free-postition shots.

Additionally, Jantz also led the team in draw controls with five. Harmel had team-highs in caused turnovers and groundballs with five and four, respectively.

The Hornets are at home this Friday for a 3 p.m. ODAC showdown with Randolph-Macon.
