No. 6 Baseball Earns Midweek Win to Split Season Series with Generals

WINCHESTER, Va. - The No. 6 Shenandoah University baseball program defeated Washington and Lee University 6-2 on Wednesday at home to split the ODAC season series.

A four-run third inning was the difference for the Hornets (24-4, 8-4 ODAC), while starting pitcher Anthony Arrichiello (1-1) earned his first win of the season with a career-high six inning outing versus the Generals (13-8-1, 7-5-1).

RECAP

Anthony Arrichiello struckout four batters in the first two innings with the game entering the third inning scoreless. The started then worked around a leadoff walk in the third to force three straight groundouts.

In the home half of the third Christian Carver reached on an error, Jaime Padilla singled, and Kyle Garrett drew aa walk to load the bases with no outs. Following a strikeout for the first out, JP Williams hit a bases-clearing, three-RBI double to give SU the lead. Williams later scored on a passed ball to push SU's lead to four at the end of three.

Neither team scored for the next two innings, until the Generals hit a two-out, two-run home run to right center in the sixth.

Joey Mitchell entered the game to pitch for SU in the seventh and forced an inning-ending double play to keep the Hornets in front by two.

In the bottom of the seventh three wild pitches by the Generals allowed Carver and Carl Keenan to score for the Hornets, making it 6-2. Following Keenan's run, the game entered an hour-long weather delay.

Due to the weather delay, Mitchell was unable to return to the mound, which gave Liam Stewart the chance to close out the game. Stewart pitched the final two innings, allowingtwo hits and forcing another double play for the Hornets.

Despite not picking up a hit, Keenan pushes his on-base streak to 25 games. Dillon Mauzy led the Hornets with two hits.
