No. 5 Baseball's Win Streak Snapped by No. 12 Sea Gulls

SALISBURY, Md. - In its third straight game against a top-25 team, the No. 5 Shenandoah University baseball team fell 6-3 on the road at No. 12 Salisbury University on Monday afternoon.

A three-run home run in the first by the Sea Gulls (21-9) was the difference in the game as the Hornets (28-5) had their nine-game winning streak snapped.

RECAP

Jaime Padilla and Kyle Garrett reached base to start the first inning, but a double play and an inning-ending groundout kept the Hornets from scoring. Then in the bottom of the inning, with two outs, Salisbury hit a three-run home run to take a 3-0 lead.

Dillon Mauzy led off the second with a double, before scoring on a two-out RBI single by Kemper Omps. However, a two-run home run in the bottom of the frame pushed Salisbury's lead out to four.

The scoring continued in the third with JP Wiliams driving in Padilla and Garrett, cutting the Hornets' deficit down to two, 5-3. However, that would be the last run of the day for the Hornets, with Salisbury adding a run in the sixth.

The Hornets' bullpen went 6-2 innings, with Anthony Arrichiello, Michael Meyers, Braden Landis, and Joey Mitchell entering the mound, after Blaine Griffin (8-1) got the start.

UP NEXT

The Hornets host Roanoke College this Saturday for an ODAC doubleheader, with the day serving as senior day.
